A family home found drenched and still dripping with blood. The harder you try to hold onto it, the faster it falls through your fingers. Slade’s inner monologue in Alterna Comics’ Go West is so dark. The story takes place in the new west of the post-apocalyptic world of 2139. Slade used to be one of the deadliest men in the new west but is now seeking a life of peace with his wife and child. When he returns home to find his family brutally murdered there’s no chance in hell of that. Slade sets out on his path of vengeance.
The best way I can describe this book is Jonah Hex meets The Walking Dead. It impressed me in every way from art to colors to the story. Garrett Gunn is the creator and writer, and has woven a bloody tale of vengeance into these pages. The story grabbed ahold of me from the first panel, and it kept me glued until the last page. Gunn delivers a captivating, well written tale; I can’t wait to get my hands on the next issue.
Saint Yak illustrated this book with a hand from Sean Forney on colors. What Gunn and Forney did art wise is perfect. They captured that western feel as well as a touch of the post-war/The Walking Dead backgrounds. The colors really made this book stand out.
This tale of vengeance will not be stopped by anyone, or at least that’s the conclusion I drew after reading the first issue. Blood will be spilled, and the innocent will be avenged. I believe Alterna has another hit on their hands with this title. This is only a 3-issue mini-series so do yourself a favor and don’t miss out!
